President Trump will reportedly announce on Thursday his first concrete steps toward expanding access to in vitro fertilization (IVF), a costly procedure to induce pregnancy that he promised during his 2024 campaign to make more affordable.
Trump signed an executive order in February asking for recommendations for policies that could reduce IVF costs. He will issue guidelines Thursday to encourage more employers to cover the procedure as part of health insurance plans. according to The New York Times.
A key question will be how to include IVF in healthcare plans without causing a spike in monthly premiums, which are already set to rise next year.
During his campaign, Trump said he would support public funding for in vitro fertilization, which can cost more than $10,000 per procedure, or a mandate requiring insurance companies to cover it.
“We’re doing this because we just love it. And we need great kids, beautiful kids in our country, we actually need them,” Trump said. told NBC in August.
