Far Cry 3 was released over a decade ago, and while it supported achievements on console and in the Ubisoft launcher on PC, it did not include any Steam achievements. But as Ubisoft returns to Steam, they’re going back and adding missing challenges to older games, including Far Cry 3. Furthermore, Ubisoft is also removing co-op achievements that are currently unobtainable.
Earlier this week, Ubisoft officially announced it Far Cry 3 now has Steam achievements. What’s more, they sync with Ubisoft Connect, so if you played the game years ago and unlocked all the challenges, you should be able to load it Far Cry 3 on Steam today and get all your achievements. Pretty!
Fortunately, Ubisoft also removed six achievements Far Cry 3 which were combined with online multiplayer game modes. In 2022 Ubisoft closed the servers for FC3online modesso these six achievements cannot currently be (legally) unlocked in 2025. Removing them was the right thing to do. It’s also a great reminder why developers shouldn’t include online multiplayer achievements in a game with an offline campaign unless you plan on running the game continuously on servers. (Also Xbox and Sony should remove achievements from games with dead online modes!)
Released in 2012, Far Cry 3 is arguably the game that made the series the AAA juggernaut it is today. This open-world action game featured lush jungles, animals to hunt, and plenty of enemy outposts to conquer. However, on Steam the game has never supported achievements Far Cry 3 I had them on PC via Ubisoft’s own launcher. Remember when Ubisoft was weird with Steamand his games were omitted from the platform or appeared with missing features? Yes, FC3The lack of Steam features was because of this.
Either way, times have changed and Ubisoft returns to Valve’s popular digital store in order to win back players and increase the audience. Over the past few weeks, Ubisoft has added Steam achievements to Far Cry 4 AND Far Cry 5 but also Assassin’s Creed Unity, Black Flag, Revelations, AND Consortium.
As for newer Ubisoft games on the Valve launcher, e.g Mirage AND Outlawsnow launch with full achievement support. That’s great and all, but maybe Ubisoft could eliminate the need to talk about Ubisoft Connect when trying to play Steam games. You can dream.
