A woman died in Australia and thousands are forced to flee their homes after the rainfall has caused flooding in North Queensland.

Authorities warn that flood waters can rise to the second floor level in a situation that they described as dangerous and life threatening.

More than 700 mm (26 -in) rain has fallen on parts of the Noord -Veensland for the past 24 hours and there is concern that “register” rainfall “will continue until Monday, according to Queensland State Prime Minister David Crisafulli.

Meteorologists say that this can be the worst floods in the region in more than 60 years.

Crisafulli said the circumstances were different from everything that Noord -Veensland “had experienced for a long time”.

“It is not only the intensity, but it is also its lifespan,” he said the Australian broadcaster ABC.

Thousands of people living in the city of Townsville were told that they had to leave their homes on Sunday, while the authorities brought in 100,000 sandbags to block flood water.

Parts of the road between Townsville and the tourist center of Cairns have been cut off, preventing efforts from getting rescue teams and sandbags to the area.
