Hurry buttons in at least three cities in California seem to have been hacked this weekend to give them the apparently AI-generated voices of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In videos that are placed online, the apparent voice of Musk listeners begs to be his friend, or that of Zuckerberg brag about “undermining democracy” and “cooking our grandparents brains with AI slop.”
A spokesperson for Palo Alto, California City told Palo Alto Online Those city employees “determine that 12 intersections in the city center were influenced” and have eliminated the voice of the speech of the pedestrian crossings pending repairs. The signals work differently as they should, they told the outlet. The hack seemed to have taken place on Friday, the person said.
The same thing happens in Redwood City, where a deputy city manager told The San Francisco Chronicle That the city is investigating and tries to solve the problem there. Hurry buttons in Menlo Park are reportedly also affected.
The speech functions of these buttons are used to guide people who have difficulty seeing, to let them know when they have to “wait” and when the current sign is switched on on the other side of the street. It is hard to say how much or not at all, the simulated voices disrupt it, but they seem to play alongside, instead of the built -in safety knowledge, at least in some videos of the phenomenon.
Here are some videos with the simulated voice of Musk, along with my transcriptions below:
Hello, this is Elon Musk, and I would like to welcome you personally at Palo Alto. You know, people keep saying: “Cancer is bad,” but have you ever tried to be a cancer? It is damn great.
Hello, this is Elon Musk. Welcome to Palo Alto, the home of Tesla Engineering. You know, they say that money cannot buy luck, and yes, okay, I think that’s true. God knows I tried it. But it can buy a cyber truck, and that’s pretty sick, right? Right? Fuck, I’m so alone.
Hello, I am Elon. Can we be friends? Do you want to be my friend? I’ll give you a cyber truck, I promise. Okay, look, you don’t know the level of corruption where I would bend for a crumb of approval.
One had a guest place of a Soundtalike by President Donald Trump, who clearly made light from Musk’s close association with Trump:
No musk: You know, it’s funny, I always thought he was just this stupid bag with shit. But once you got to know him, he is actually pretty sweet and tender and loving.
Not Trump: Sweetheart, come back to bed.
A video published by Palo Alto Online contained this quote, spoken by the voice of a forged Zuckerberg:
Hey, it’s Zuck here. I just want to tell you how very proud I am on everything we have built together. From undermining democracy to cooking the brains of our grandparents with ai -slop, to – to making the world less safe for transmeners. Nobody does better than we do, and, uh, and I think that’s pretty neat. Zuck out!
Otherwise, the other simulated Zuckerberg -speech reports that I found in videos online would all have the same content:
Hello, this is Mark Zuckerberg, but real people call me ‘The Zuck’. You know, it is normal to feel uncomfortable or even violate while we insert AI powerfully into every facet of your conscious experience. And I just want to assure you, you don’t have to worry, because there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop. Anyway, you see.
