Senator Tina Smith from Minnesota will not seek re -election, who will pop in the hope of Democrats to take the Senate

Smith made the announcement on a video posted on social media. The 66-year-old said that after 20 years of work in the public sector she wants to spend more time with her family.

“This decision is not political. It’s completely personal, “said Smith. “But it is not lost to me that our country now needs strong, progressive leadership, perhaps more than ever.”

Smith said she is planning to use the two years in her term to work to represent the interests of Minnesota in the Senate without having to worry about the re -election.

“We have a deep bank of political talent in Minnesota, a group of leaders who are more than ready to pick up the work and wear ourselves ahead,” she said. “And I am excited to make room for them to move forward.”
