She said the abuse escalated when her mother met Hildebrandt, a former sex therapist and founder of the online religious platform Connections.
“I thought, oh Jodi, I don’t like her, but maybe this is a good thing that comes from this: My (mother) doesn’t scream anymore, she doesn’t hit us anymore,” Shari said. “But it was like that become more psychological. And in some ways that was more damaging to me.”
Shari said things got even worse when her parents separated in 2022 and Hildebrandt moved into the family home, describing it as a “weird vibe.”
