Review
So there’s probably a character named Mole or something, and Allan and Glep team up to go on their own quest.
Our take
Hans Moleman is a cute old man who was nothing but cute throughout his run The Simpsons. Not to be confused with this pathetic old man named Mole, who lives below the headquarters of the “Smiling Friends” and watched the strange adventures of Pym and Charlie from afar.
Sure, it’s your classic stalker premise, but done by Zach Hedel and Michael Cusack with an absolutely terrible caricature of the Mole, who spends the entire episode covering up his naughty parts because of his self-consciousness. The result is a quarter of an hour filled with frantic rhythm, shock scares and Glep and Allan – “new smiling friends”.
This week’s episode Smiling friends instantly in my top 5 episodes of all time. It’s actually shocking how much you get out of this show every week, and the fact that Zach and Mike have mastered the quarter hour the same way they’ve mastered the five minute shorts before. Smiling friends is fighting South Park this season, which isn’t really fair, but it’s Vader vs. Luke at this point.
