NASA will unveil new images of the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS on Wednesday (November 19), and you can watch it live.

Comet 3I/ATLAS was discovered on July 1 this year by the NASA-funded ATLAS (Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System) observatory.
It is the third interstellar comet ever discovered in our The solar systemafter 1I/’Oumuamua and 2I/Borisovwhich were observed in October 2017, i.e. in August 2019.
On October 29, 3I/ATLAS made its closest approach sunturning point known as perihelion; it came within about 130 million miles (210 million kilometers) of our star. The new images may highlight increased cometary activity caused by this solar transit, although NASA’s brief statement did not mention that possibility.
“The assets within NASA’s science missions give the United States the unique ability to observe 3I/ATLAS nearly the entire time it passes through our celestial neighborhood and study—with complementary science instruments and from different directions—how the comet behaves,” NASA officials said in a statement. “This asset includes both spacecraft broadly The solar systemas well as observatories on earth.”
Comet 3I/ATLAS did its thing closest approach to Mars on October 3, flying within just 19 million miles (30 million km) of the Red Planet. An interstellar intruder won’t even come close to shaving the Earth; will zoom within about 170 million miles (270 million km) of our planet on December 19.
