Netflix is ​​raising prices again, but most of Europe has fled for now

Netflix announced another wave of price increases across its various membership tiers – including, but not limited to, raising its Premium subscription to $25 per month – but at least for now, the fees won’t affect most European countries.

The message comes as Netflix celebrates its highest-ever quarterly subscriber growthand in the last fourth quarter, 19 million new customers joined the streaming service, which it attributes to its combination of live sports and original programming, including the second season of Squid Game, which has already amassed more than 165.7 million views.

Taking all this into account, Netflix says it expects to generate higher-than-forecast revenue in 2025, driven in part by a new round of price increases. They entered into force today and are aimed specifically at the United States, Canada, Portugal and Argentina.

“As we continue to invest in programming and provide greater value to our members,” the streaming service wrote in its message to shareholders, “from time to time we will ask our members to pay a little more so that we can reinvest in making Netflix even better.”

To this end, prices for “most” plans are increasing. Netflix’s ad tier is rising from $6.99 to $7.99 per month, while the standard ad-free subscription is rising from $15.49 to $17.99 per month. And as for the premium tier of the streaming service – currently the only way to watch content in 4K resolution – it will increase from $22.99 to $24.99 per month.

For now, there’s no word on price increases outside the four currently announced countries, but – given Netflix’s past behavior – there’s a good chance it won’t be too long before they go into effect in additional territories as well.
