Nelly Korda skipped the Champions dinner for the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship because of a painful neck, but the world no. 1 insists that she will be ready for the start of the third major of the year, Thursday.
Korda’s problem rose after he had taken a shot out of the rough during a practice round on Monday, with therapeutic tape on the back of her neck visible when she spoke to the media on Tuesday.
Korda, who skipped two tournaments at the end of last year during the LPGA’s Asia Swing because of a small neck injury, played this latest complaint.
“I hit a shot out of the rough and my neck went into a complete spasm,” said Korda, adding that she felt better while she also acknowledged that it had “a little” her swing and preparation.
“It is clear that with the injury I had last year, every time something flashes in my neck, I think I feel it a little more than what I used to ask,” she added. “But I have a great physio that takes care of me. I will be ready on Thursday.”
Korda said she didn’t go to the Champions dinner on Monday evening because she had to prioritize her body. The PGA winner of 2021 sent a message from apologies to title defender Amy Yang.
“I didn’t go because of my neck. I was so sad to miss it,” said Korda. “I sent Amy a message; the menu looked incredible. I love Korean food, so I was really jealous.”
The dual big winner came in second when he opened a third one three weeks ago on the US Women’s and has to win this season in nine starts.

“It just makes you more hungry,” said the 26-year-old about the open disappointment of her wives. “Of course I like winning. You can’t win often, but there is nothing as it is in fight, so I think that is a bit more hungry to come back and work harder and put myself in that position.
“At the end of the day I placed myself in that position. I was still in fight and felt the adrenaline str ‘at 18, in an attempt to win a big championship. That is why I play this game and why I love it so much.
“You can look at it in a positive way, you can look at it in a negative way, but at the end of the day, three weeks after I can turn it in a positive way, and it will hopefully make me hungry.”
