Summary
In the 2020s, cars with internal combustion engines were largely phased out and instead replaced by self-driving electric and fuel cell vehicles. Although these fossil fuel-powered cars are in danger of disappearing entirely, a dedicated group in Japan called MFG is trying to maintain interest in them through street racing streamed online. With 10 billion yen at stake and more than three hundred drivers competing, only the “Godly Fifteen” – the top 15 racers on the circuit – have a chance to advance and win the coveted prize.
Fresh off the plane from England, 19-year-old Kanata Rivington can’t wait to compete in the fourth edition of the MFG competition. The half-Japanese driver, who was trained at an elite driving school in his home country, is fighting for the top spot in his used Toyota 86 GT. Despite the disadvantages that come with an outdated car, the newcomer is determined to become one of this year’s “Godly Fifteen.”
Kanata takes his father’s surname and is given the nickname “Kanata Katagiri”. Conquering the Japanese race track is just a stepping stone on the way to his real goal: finding out the whereabouts of his missing father. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
