The outgoing managing director of NHS England, Amanda Pritchard, has already resigned

Large cuts are planned in NHS England as part of the government plans to avoid duplication with the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs.

This means that around 6,500 jobs are at risk, about half of the workforce in NHS England, to save by £ 175 million a year.

The news comes that there are three other members of the NHS England board.

This follows the latest announcements that the managing director Amanda Pritchard and the medical director Sir Stephen Powis will terminate.

NHS England was founded in 2013 by the former secretary of Tory Health, Andrew Lansley, to give it more independence and autonomy.

Government sources said the overall plan was to bring NHS England much closer to the DHSC and to transform resources from the central administration into regional health committees.

Sir Jim Mackey, the incoming interim manager, who replaces MS Pritchard from April, will monitor “a transition team” that will crank through the “radical reduction and redesign of the center with the DHSC”.

Radical reform

The plan will try to reduce the duplication of jobs between the two organizations. Some of the job cuts could also be carried out within the DHSC.

Julian Kelly, Chief Chief Financial Officer from NHS England, Emily Lawson, and Chief Delief Officer Steve Russell announced their decision together on Monday.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting said: “We are in a time critical transformation for our NHS. With a stronger relationship between the department and the NHS England, we will all work together to counter the extent of the challenge.”

In an e -mail to the employees, she added that it was the right time for “radical reform of size and functions” by NHS England.

But she added: “I know that these messages will be very worrying. The transition team will develop plans in the coming weeks and we know that colleagues want to complete this as soon as possible to ensure future certainty.”
