India undermined the popular myth of development

THigh years Ago Siddharth Dube, a writer, visited a small village in northern India near the place of historical rebellion of peasants. He found a lot that remained furious: mud huts, primitive plows, “barefoot old men” and “thin children”. One older peasant, Ram Dass, remembered the bitter deprivation of his younger years when he would work long days on someone’s land for a modest 1.5 kg grain prize. On cool nights, poor stuffed rice persecutes old clothes to warm up. “What did we know, what was the quilt?” The man was lucky that he had one pair of shoes from his wedding to death.
