A British fishing vessel has been seized by the French authorities, accused of illegal fish in their waters.
It was seized in the English canal and is held in the port of Boulogne, unable to leave while the French authorities are considering prosecution.
The ship was stopped by the French navy at sea on Thursday evening, whereby the crew would have fished in French waters in French waters without a permit.
The incident comes days after Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer was criticized by British fishermen about his Reset trade with the European Union, which gives EU fisherms access to British waters For 12 years.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it offered support to a British subject in France and had contact with the local authorities.
“Since the ship is subject to an ongoing investigation by the French fishing authorities, we cannot comment further at the moment,” a government spokesperson added.
According to the French Coast Guard, the Navy Patrol vessel Pluvier was inspections in their waters on 23 May and thought that the British ship is said to have been operated on without a permit.
The fishing vessel was diverted to Boulogne “with a view to initiating prosecution”.
The conservatives accused the French authorities of “shameful double standards” about the arrest.
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said they had not succeeded in putting thousands of migrants crossing the channel in small boats, accusing France of “not taking any action at sea and the illegal immigrants often usher in the British waters”.
“Yet when a British fishing vessel is in French water, they are suddenly able to act magically. If the French can now intercept boats, they must start stopping the boats with illegal immigrants – such as international right to do.”
The UK and the EU have concluded a deal that covers fish, trade, defense, energy and strengthening ties In a number of policy areas that still end up.
An important part of the deal includes giving European fishing boats for another 12 years of access to British waters in exchange for illuminating some trade frictions.
Critics of the conservatives and the reform of the UK described the deal as a “surrender” to the EU, while the liberal Democrats said that the government had taken some “positive first steps” to rebuild ties with Europe.
