Bone-twisting sadism and addictive simulation mix uncomfortably well in Brush Burial: Gutter World

You have played countless addictive simulators as a cyborg, thief and cyborg thief. Now try to do it as a demonic dominatrix on the run. Brush Burial: Gutter World is a new, sneaky and crazy slice of misery from Knife Demon Software. It throws you back into the role of Dill, a swamp devil with a serrated tail that you can use as a whip and grappler, knocking over props and pulling out crossbow bolts in the air.

Fennel seems as agile here as before, exquisite Burial of the brushjumping from head to head like a tic, but they enhanced their moveset with an injection of tweaked kopp&omakr;jutsu. You can ensnare enemies to perform twisting, bone-crushing takedowns, with the problem being that you’re defenseless during the execution. It’s deeply, more unpleasant. Those little fatal jerks at the end of the animation are more emotional than anything else in Doom Eternal. I’m not sure I can bear to watch the trailer again. Here it is.

Is Gutter World demo on Steam. There will be four levels throughout, with an emphasis on replaying the game to experiment with bending the spikes in different directions and unlocking cosmetics. I like the Fennel wardrobe. Adam Jensen never managed to wear a corset and thighs and was all the poorer for it.

The game’s environments are sinewy, occult creations where all objects appear to be crushed. Mourning and broken spaces that seem both wildly improvised and carefully designed. It’s a land of ugliness and poverty, and you have no obligation to be nice to it. “Get lost in the crawling innards of a colonial chassis,” comments the Steam page. “Make wealth from misfortune.” Here’s a summary from the developer.

  • Tightly designed and interconnected levels with multiple paths to the goal, full of hostile or friendly NPCs who respond to crimes such as theft, trespassing and murder.
  • Fast, immediate combat, simple but solid, encouraging the use of improvised or stolen weapons, environmental objects and a unique melee takedown system.
  • Dozens of unique cosmetic items to unlock through in-game challenges and progression through game levels.
  • One “Larger Contract” and three “Smaller Contracts” to complete. Four levels in total, built to be replayable.

I learned about the new demo from Liz Ryerson, developer of Problem Attic we’ve collected some Next Fest gems on Bluesky. He also mentioned Ryerson 「Terror」type: 【ALCHEMY】which I really like despite the terrible typography choices. In short, it’s an addictive simulation where you play as a bomb maker, mixing reagents while running through the shadows.

If you don’t like immersive simulators, maybe check out the demo after watching Dill turn the guards into pretzels Bad egg – a screaming shmup that reminds me of the old Macintosh hit, Crystal Quest. Thank you Liz.
