Australia is confronted with a selection of top order with Sam Konstas and Cameron Green mentioned in the team for the World Test Championship Final against South Africa and tour through the Caribbean that will follow.
The reigning WTC champions have included four Tempo-Bowlers in the team of 15 players with Pat Cummins who return as a captain, while Josh Hazlewood is once again under an injury cloud on his way to the decision maker.
Konstas was omitted from the Australian XI for two tests in Sri Lanka after making a stunning debut during the Home Series against India, but is back in the frame for the winner-all-test to be played in Lord’s from 11 June.
Green has been admitted to a team of Australia for the first time since he is forced to sit outside last summer due to a stress fracture in his back that still prevents the all -rounder bowling.
“We are lucky and look forward to having Pat, Josh and Cam back in the team,” said chairman of Selectors George Bailey. “The team ended the WTC cycle with an impressive series victory in Sri Lanka after an equally strong summer in beating India for the first time in a decade.
“That series has concluded a consistent performance during the two -year cycle and now offer us the incredibly exciting chance of defending the World Test Championship.”
The 19-year-old Konstas made half a century in a sensational test debut against India and on average 28.25 of four aggressive punches in the series, while Green had settled in the No. 4 position in early 2024 before he was sidelined with injury.
Marnus Labuschagne appears when the batter that is most pressure to hold his place for Konstas and Green to take on South Africa and for the three tests against West India.
The Australia No. 3 on average 46.76 in 57 tests, but his output fell to 28.33 points per innings by one ton in 19 games about the 2023-25 WTC cycle.
Cummins returns to lead Australia to the WTC final after he had been the tour through Sri Lanka and the Champions Trophy, while the defending champions try to become the first side to claim several titles.
Hazlewood has overcome a calf injury that excluded him from the Sri Lanka tests and 50-over tournament that followed on time to return to the IPL. But the 34-year-old has since been forced to sit for royal challengers Bengaluru because of a shoulder problem and is No certainty to return to India when the IPL will resume this weekend.
