The world number nine, which started on the 10th tee, collected Birdies on the 11th, 12th and 14th holes and was just as impressive after turning, with the only spot on his card that was on the second arrival during a point of three Birdies in five holes.

“It was almost a perfect golf round, especially as soon as the weather came in, just a wonderful round,” said Macintyre, 29.

“It is difficult if it gets this windy. It is difficult to hit the ball well with the wind.

“So I had to try to fight the wind on certain holes and was not comfortable – but I made some beautiful photos.”

In the meantime, England’s Nathan Kimsey made nine consecutive birdies on the old course to write his name in the DP World Tour Record books, and only became the third player to achieve the performance after Matt Wallace two years ago and Australian James Nitties in 2019.

The 32-year-old, who ended the day on five after a 68, started his stunning line on the second hole after a par at the first.

Almost a third of the 168-man field will complete their second rounds from 8:00 am on Saturday, with the third round planned to go on the road at 12.30 pm with a Shotgun start.

With a total prize fund of $ 5 million (£ 3.7 million), the first prize for winning the professional event is $ 800,000 (£ 594,000), while the team championship, which has attracted a large number of stars from other sports and from television and films, offers a $ 50,000 check to the winning couple.
