As far as I know, 2025 was a pretty successful year for The Simpsons. In addition to its ongoing 37th season, The Simpsons finally debuted the popular online game where almost every character from a certain franchise can drop: Fortnite. Yes, that includes Huntrix from “KPop Demon Hunters” in case you were wondering. To celebrate this latest inclusion, Fortnite and The Simpsons have teamed up to release four short episodes chronicling the beginnings of this legendary collaboration. The result is exactly what you would expect from such a collaboration. This is a direct and often funny depiction of Homer’s “attempt” to make Springfield a better place with a powerful shard. Spoiler alert: this resulted in him becoming a giant, setting the stage for tomorrow’s epic Fortnite Zero Hour event.
However, it also feels more like an advertisement for the inclusion of The Simpsons in the game than a limited series, especially in its pacing and episodic structure. Fortnite’s characters barely cooperated after the first chapter, and the episode “Sugar High” could have included a short montage to bridge the gap between Homer making food fall from the sky and the townspeople’s anger at his “good deed.” Episodes were at least three to seven minutes long, which would make this a fun watch for fans of both franchises. But their structures could use more expansion packs to make this four-episode commercial as grand as the iconic online game.
