The report from the Republican Party in the House of Representatives accuses Democrats of undermining the US health care system

FIRST ON FOX: The House Republican Party releases a report accusing Democrats of trying to undermine America’s health care system as the standoff over federal funding escalates.

The government shutdown Republicans and Democrats have still not been able to agree on a path forward for at least part of fiscal year (FY) 2026.

Republicans are pushing for a relatively simple extension of funding for the 2025 budget through Nov. 21, but Democrats have said they won’t agree to a federal funding bill that doesn’t come with major health care reforms.

However, the new GOP-led report accuses Democrats of trying to undermine the system with their counterproposal for a federal funding bill — specifically the proposed rollback of health care measures in Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA).

The report states that the bill, which was renamed the “Working Families Tax Cuts” (WFTC), “advanced a vision for Medicaid that balances compassion with responsibility, prioritizing care for the most vulnerable Americans while ensuring that federal resources are used responsibly.”

“Legislative reforms to rural hospital financing, Medicaid financing practices, and federal reimbursement for noncitizen medical care collectively strengthen the program’s long-term sustainability,” the report said.

“In contrast, the Democratic Continuing Resolution would dismantle these reforms, reversing progress toward a more efficient, transparent, and equitable Medicaid system. Such a repeal would undermine the stability of rural health care, reintroduce opportunities for funding abuse, and impose unnecessary costs on American taxpayers.”

A continuing resolution (CR) is intended as a short-term extension of current federal funding levels, intended to give negotiators more time to reach an agreement for the next fiscal year, which begins October 1.

Republicans’ CR would extend fiscal year 2025 funding levels through Nov. 21, while Democrats’ counterproposal would run through Oct. 31.

In addition to pushing for the repeal of the OBBBA in the Democrats’ CR, they also call for any deal to be extended as well. Obamacare subsidies which have been reinforced during the COVID-19 pandemic and will expire at the end of this year.

Republicans have portrayed the Democrats’ counterproposal as a means to return health care to illegal immigrants after the OBBBA tightened certain measures that made it harder for noncitizens to access federal Medicaid dollars.

Democratic leaders have accused the Republican Party of lying about the situation.

But the Republican Party has also pointed out that repealing all of their health care reforms would also mean repealing the $50 billion their bill adds to health care. finance rural hospitals.

“This targeted investment will support states in stabilizing critical healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that rural residents, often far from major medical centers, can continue to access essential services,” the report said.

The five-page memo appears to be a rebuttal to Democrats’ defense of the shutdown battle they are waging to maintain access to U.S. health care.

The Republican Party’s CR was passed by the House of Representatives on September 19, but is stuck in the Senate, where under current numbers at least five Democrats are needed to reach the 60-vote threshold to break a filibuster.

However, Senate Democrats rejected the GOP CR seven times. The expectation is that the House will vote on it again on Tuesday evening.

Fox News Digital reached out to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ office for comment on the GOP report but did not immediately hear back.
