Name me a Killjoy, but I agree with Zoe Williams (Why do we pretend that we enjoy heat waves – and ignore the brutal, burning reality? June 23rd). It is not only because I am a fading redhead with light skin, freckles, vitiligo and the need for factor 50 protection. I feel warm to my bones just like everyone else. Today the world is hotter than I was a child. I am now 68 and a science has predicted A hotter climate for many years. People around the world are die Because she overheats.
Does anyone care? The possibility of building up in human-centered solutions for warming is missing, for example in urban apartments and for people in need of protection, so that we are incredibly under prepared for the human tragedy predicted by scientists. I am worried about my children and grandchildren. What kind of world do we build?
It is one thing to build in public announcements how people can stay cool in the heat – obvious things such as fluid intake, sunscreen and curtains are closed. The Roadmap of the Physiological Society For dealing with climate change, the path for multidisciplinary approaches to find solutions for political decision -makers and infrastructure shows.

While a large part of England is warning under amber’s heat, another crisis is increasing softly: forest fires quickly become overlooked climate manufacturers in the UK. Already this year, More than 560 forest fires were recorded in England and Wales – a seven -time increase in the same period in 2024. The firefighting teams are stretched up to the fracture point from hidden Moorland to motorway edges. Many blocs are caused by disposable grills, cigarettes or over -illuminated glass – small actions with catastrophic follow. Torfland and forests, vital carbon sinks and ports for biological diversity are destroyed by acre.
However, we have no national strategy for running fire. No consistent bans for open fires during high risk hours. And the fire brigade that are cut into the bones will improvise in view of this new normality. This is no longer a Mediterranean problem. Great Britain will be exposed to a cycle of summer infernos without urgent national measures. The ministers have to restore the financing for fire services, introduce fire brigade bans into warnings and create a proper resource forest fire reaction plan. Everything else is knowledge of climate.

The way in which the media present an extremely hot and dangerous weather with words such as “beautiful” and “beautiful sunny day” are raging. Such descriptions are personal value judgments and should not be held objective reporting. Everything that can be said objectively is that it is hot. My immune system has difficulty dealing with the heat because medication helps to prevent breast cancer. High temperatures and humidity make me exhausted and forced to look for refuge inside. I long for harmless weather where I can handle my normal life without being forced to decide until it is over.
The binary view that hot weather is equally good and cold/wet weather is equally bad, in view of the current climate problems, if we want to have a chance to convince everyone to do their contribution to protecting the environment.
