Chief Political Correspondent, travel with the prime minister

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has arrived in Ukraine, where he will join fellow world leaders to put pressure on Russia to agree with a 30-day ceasefire in the war.
Sir Keir traveled by train with President Emmanuel Macron from France and Friedrich Merz, who makes his first trip to Ukraine since he became Germany’s Chancellor this week.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk joins them in Kiev. It is Sir Keir’s second visit to Ukraine as Prime Minister.
He and the other leaders use the visit to encourage Russia “a complete and unconditional 30 -day ceasefire -to be -fires” -a proposal that was initially made by US President Donald Trump.
The decision of the leaders to travel to Kiev together is a deliberate symbolic reaction to the more than 20 leaders who have joined President Vladimir Putin in Moscow for the commemorations of the Russian Victory Day on Friday.
The leaders also promised “the pressure to argue with the Russian war machine”.
On Saturday morning they visited Kyiv’s Independence Square to express their respect to the Ukrainian soldiers who were killed in action since the full invasion of Russia started more than three years ago.
The four leaders will become members of President VolodyMyr Zensky for a virtual meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing” – the group of about 30 mainly European countries looking for ways to anchor the safety of Ukraine if a peace agreement with Russia has been agreed.
In a statement released before their arrival, the leaders said: “We, the leaders of France, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom will be in solidarity with Ukraine against the barbaric and illegal full invasion of Russia against the Russian and illegal full invasion.
“We repeat our support for President Trump’s calls for a peace agreement and call on Russia to stop hindering efforts to secure a permanent peace.
“In addition to the US, we call on Russia to agree on a full and unconditional ceasefire of 30 days to create the space for conversations about a just and lasting peace.
“We are ready to support peace talks as quickly as possible, to discuss the technical implementation of the cessation -the fires and to prepare for a complete peace agreement.
“We are clear that the bloodshed should end, Russia must stop his illegal invasion and Ukraine must be able to bloom as a safe, safe and sovereign nation within its internationally recognized limits for the coming generations.
“We will continue to increase our support for Ukraine. Until Russia agrees with a permanent cease -the fire, we will prepare the pressure on the Russian war machine.”
Russia announced that it would mark the Victory Day of the Second World War with a unilateral, three-day ceasefires, which Ukraine rejected as a “theatrical show”.
KYIV has described the truce as a farce and accuses Russia of launching thousands of attacks since it came into effect on Wednesday at midnight. Russia says it has caught it -it has observed the fires and accuses Ukraine of hundreds of violations.
The German Chancellor Merz said that he had high hope that a completely cessation -the fires could be agreed as quickly as possible.
The three -day Armistice of Russia will end on Saturday evening, but Merz said it can be extended to 30 days and the “ball is now completely in the court of Moscow”.
Trump repeated the call for an unconditional ceasefire of 30 days after a phone call with Zensky.
“If it is striking -the fire is not respected, the US and its partners will impose further sanctions,” Trump placed on the truth of the truth.
