For the 2025 NBA Play -Offs Tipping off on April 19, teams on the play-off bubble will fight it out in the play-in tournament. Four teams of each conference will compete for the last two late season spots, which add extra drama before the main event starts.

What is the NBA Play-in Tournament?
The NBA Board of Governors approved the NBA Play-in Tournament on a full-time basis good in July 2022. In the NBA season 2024-25, the play-in tournament will take place on 15-18 April, 2025, between the Last day of the regular season on April 13 and the start of the play -offs on April 19.
The tournament comprises the four teams with the seventh to tenth best winning percentages in the eastern and Western conferences. After six games, the seventh and eighth seeds in each conference are determined for the NBA play -offs.
When is the NBA Play-in Tournament?
The NBA Play-in Tournament 2025 takes place from Tuesday 15 April to Friday 18 April.

How does the NBA Play-in Tournament work?
The seventh and eighth seeds in each conference play in the first play-in games on April 15, and the ninth and tenth seeds in each conference play on April 16. The winners of the 7-8 games will continue to the play-offs such as the no. 7 Seed. The losers of the 7-8 games are confronted with the winners of the 9-10 games on April 18, with the number 8 seed on the line. The team that loses will be disqualified by play -off position.
The losers of the 9-10 games are disqualified by play-off rack.
In essence, the teams who end up seventh and eighth in their conference get two chances to earn a place in the NBA play -offs.
